00 Torrefied Sitka/Flamed Ash | 2025

This 14-fret 00 is an interesting hybrid of different traditions. The flamed German ash is similar to the maple that was so commonly used in Europe before the widespread availability of tropic woods. It looks amazing, with its almost violin-like appearance, and sounds great. Just as importantly, it’s a solid ethical choice. The neck is also made of a domestic wood – elm – which matches the whole package.

The top is a lovely golden piece of torrefied spruce, which gives the guitar a drier, aged tone right out of the box. I’ve used the pyramid bridge I like so much and aged the tuners a bit so they work with the rest of the look of the guitar. The shellac mixture I made is a bit harder than just standard shellac, so should provide some extra protection. Overall, a real looker as far as I’m concerned, lovely to hold in your lap, and super comfortable neck shape. This one deserves a very good home!
